I understand that seeking counselling can be a difficult decision, and I hope to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and supported. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is crucial for the success of counselling, so I prioritise building a trusting and collaborative relationship. Pluralistically trained, I draw on different counselling modalities with the aim to empower you to find your own solutions and make meaningful changes.
My therapeutic style is grounded in the belief that each person have their own unique experiences and perspectives, and I work collaboratively to understand your worldview. I invite and welcome clients from all backgrounds and identities.

As a counsellor, my goal during our first session is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings. Here's what you can expect:
Introduction: I'll start by introducing myself, explaining my counselling approach, and providing you with information about the confidentiality and consent process.
Exploring Reasons for Seeking Counselling: I'll ask questions to better understand why you're seeking counselling, what issues you want to address, and what goals you hope to achieve through counselling.
Assessing Mental Health: I may also ask some initial questions to assess your mental health, such as whether you've experienced depression, anxiety, or other mental health concerns.
Collaborative Goal-Setting: Together, we may begin to create goals together for future sessions that align with your needs and aspirations.
This first session is an opportunity to ask questions, and for us to talk about whether you think we could work well together. If you decide that I’m not the right counsellor for you, I won’t be upset or offended - It’s important to me that you find a counsellor you connect with. If that’s not me, I will try to recommend someone else.

Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of counselling relationships. Any information you disclose to me will remain confidential. However, there are a couple of important things you should know. Firstly, all counsellors participate in regular supervision with a qualified and experienced professional. This helps to ensure that I provide you with the best possible service. During supervision, any information I share would be non-identifiable.
Short of being subpoenaed by a court of law, the only circumstances in which I may be required to breach confidentiality is if I believe you are at serious and imminent risk of harming yourself or others. In such cases, I would work with you to seek the necessary support. Please be assured that outside of these situations, your privacy is of the utmost importance to me.

This is a difficult question to answer as it depends upon many individual factors. In short, it really comes down to what you would like to do. Often people commit to either weekly/fortnightly or monthly intervals.
Please note that this is not a crisis intervention service.
If it is an emergency, call the emergency services on 111 or go to the local ED for an immediate response. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or have concerns about personal safety please call your GP or Te Haika on 0800 745 477 (Mental Health Crisis Service for the Capital & Coast/Hutt Valley region).
Helpline services are available right now in New Zealand that offer support. All the services listed below are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
